Abc: always be communicating.

I read the phrase 'abc: always be communicating' in a book, and can't get it out of my brain. It's a play on 'always be closing,' which is the traditional model of always trying to sell, sell, sell. That's not really a method that works nowadays, except for maybe mom and pop shops or general retailers. Mostly we shop at places that communicate with us, places whose marketing and brand is familiar.

Always be communicating rings true for just about anyone, whether you're selling something or not. As soon as I got a car I got a phone, and thus was able to communicate with other phone users at any time (I didn't get SMS till college). I'm constantly communicating with people via email, Twitter, Whatsapp, Facebook and very rarely, the phone. With a data plan so cheap, I'm online 24/7 and make it a point to respond to things as soon as I can.

I'm not sure it's the best thing for us, for our health or relationships or general living situation, but in order to feel competitive in today’s world, we’re always communicating.

How are you talking to others?
