Wendes Logo and Website Redesign

Wed, Jun 18, 2014

Project Case Study

Wendes Systems creates estimating software for the HVAC industry, helping contractors and heating and cooling technicians determine their materials and man-hour costs. Their software also does digital take-offs, replacing the need for paper drawings in the field.

Wendes had gotten in touch about doing a redesign and implementation of their site currently hosted on HubSpot. After doing some research into their competitors and what they were after, I felt as though their logo and branding were a bit out-dated and could do with an update. They wanted a new site design that would better define their products and improve navigation.

My first task was to tackle the logo redesign, as it would set the basis for the look of the rest of the site. I came up with several versions of the logo, and once one was decided on, created iterations to nail down some of the details.

In the midst of this process I was able to meet Wendes' CEO in person to discuss the project. This was a nice change as most of my clients I never meet in person, and some I only communicate with via email.

Once the new logo design was finalized, I moved onto the website redesign. It was important to determine the architecture of the sites pages to imagine the visitor's experience and how they would find the information they were looking for. With this set, I pulled in the colors and design influence from the logo to create a homepage and internal page design, again iterating with different color options.

My experience with the HubSpot CMS platform was vital towards implementing the new design on the live site. I created some development pages and used a link to a new custom CSS file on those pages to implement the new design without making any changes visible to prospects. Once the development pages were approved, it was simple to switch the live CSS files and apply the changes globally.
